ERP Calculator is an Amateur Radio software utility designed to perform a side-by-side comparison of two Ham Radio antenna systems. ERP Calculator comes pre-programmed with data files including published data for several popular brands and types of coax cable as well as several popular antenna system brands and models. ERP Calculator displays values of ERP, Antenna Power Gain, Antenna Feed point Power, Antenna System Gain in dB, Antenna Gain in dBd, SWR Attenuation in dB, SWR Power Attenuation, Coax Loss in dB, and Coax Power Loss. Independently change SWR values, transmitter power values, coax cable length, and number of coax connectors.

Configuring antenna systems with ERP Calculator is easy. Each antenna system requires a section of coax cable and an antenna. Simply select a coax brand and type from the drop down boxes. Now select the coax cable length. These figures will be used to determine the coax cable insertion loss for the antenna system. Next select an antenna brand, model, and band of operation. The antenna gain will be used to determine overall antenna system gain, and ERP. The antenna system gain and coax system loss figures will fill in automatically. Change the coax type, or coax length, or antenna model, or transmit power, or SWR value to see how the changes affect overall antenna system performance. No more guessing if one antenna system performs better than another.

After configuring both antenna systems print up a comparison report to see comparisons of the various antenna gains, coax losses and antenna system setting values.

After you have configured a pair of antenna systems they may be saved for future use eliminating the need to reconfigure the systems if working with the same data in the future. This saves time.

To reload a saved antenna system choose Load System then select from the list of saved systems to automatically repopulate ERP Calculator with all the saved settings.

Edit Antenna data with the Antenna Editor. If you like to homebrew antennas or if the antenna brand or model you wish to work with is not included with ERP Calculator simply add it yourself with the Antenna Editor Dialog. Antenna bands of operation, Gain Figures, and Gain Type may be programmed by the user for calculations with ERP Calculator.

Get the most out of your next antenna system project.

  1. Q: Will ERP Calculator function on non English versions of Windows? A: This is a case by case issue. If decimal numbers are expressed the same way English numbers are expressed with a period like ###.### for 123.456 then it may function as expected. If a non English version of Windows expresses decimal numbers with a comma like ###,### for 123.456 then it most likely will not function properly. If this issue is encountered it cannot be corrected since I only have English versions of the OS to write and test software on.

  2. Q: Does ERP Calculator have a trial period? A: Yes, ERP Calculator is fully functional while unregistered for a maximum of 5 uses. After 5 uses ERP Calculator requires registration. ERP Calculator also has a 10 minute session limit during the trial period.

  3. Q: Does ERP Calculator require registration? A: Yes, ERP Calculator requires registration. A nominal registration fee of $9.45 US is charged for ERP Calculator registration.

  4. Q: What is included with the registration fee? A: The registration fee entitles registered users of ERP Calculator to obtain future ERP Calculator product updates at no additional charge. In addition companion utilities will become available in the near future. These companion utilities will function when a registered KD4UDY software product is installed on the users system.

  5. Q: Does ERP Calculator include a help file? A: Yes, ERP Calculator comes with a comprehensive help file that describes each function in detail. A quick reference sheet may be printed from the help file that explains step-by-step how to create an antenna system for comparison calculations.

  6. Q: Do I need to download the VB 6.0 Runtime Files? A: Search on your system for the file named MSVBVM60.DLL. If the file is there then check the date it should be dated Saturday, August 18, 2001, 8:00:00 AM. If it is dated 08/18/2001 or later then your system should be ready if the file is not there or has an earlier date then it is recommended that you download and install the VB 60 Runtime Files.
